At Step By Step Nursery, our nursery school curriculum follows follow a combination of two key curricula namely the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Reggio Emilia Approach.
This specialised preschool curriculum is further enriched by a Language Programme to expose children to Arabic and other languages, thus creating our unique Learning Triangle Curriculum that is tailored to suit all ages and stages of development.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The world-renowned Reggio Emilia Approach originated in its namesake town in Italy after World War II. Key elements of this approach emphasise a progressive, cooperative and holistic early childhood education for children from birth to 6 years of age.
The Reggio Emilia Approach emphasise hands-on discovery learning that allows the child to use all their senses and all their languages to learn.
Children are viewed as competent, curious, full of potential, and interested in connecting to the world around them. They use a hundred different ways of thinking, of discovering, of learning. Teachers are cognizant of each child’s potential and construct their work, activities and the environment for the children to respond appropriately. This will be evident to you during your visit to our nursery.
The teachers, parents and children are collaborators in the process of learning. The parent is an essential resource for the child’s learning. We hold special events throughout the school year, to encourage parental participation and to foster community development.
The environment is the third teacher. Based on the Reggio Emilia approach, the design and features of our nursery are carefully built to create a rich, calm and inspiring environment, to promote holistic development of children.
In our increasingly global world, almost every city is cosmopolitan and an increasing number of parents are starting to realize that their children will benefit from knowing more than one language. Research even shows that bilinguals tend to be more creative than those who speak one language. Many parents think that they should wait until their child is older so not to interrupt their development and learning in other areas, however, research shows quite the contrary.
It is proven that when children are exposed to different languages from an early age it lays the foundation for future language acquisition. Step by Step is a vocabulary rich environment, which encourages and supports the use of language and we engage and expose your child in meaningful age appropriate fundamental activities in English and Arabic.
